All appeals must be filed in writing to the appropriate office within 10 business days from the date of the decision letter. Failure to file the appeal within 10 business days of the decision letter will forfeit your right to appeal.

Criteria for filing an appeal is limited to the following:

  • The student’s rights were violated in the hearing process;
  • New material evidence that could not have been discovered at the time of the hearing;
  • The evidence did not support the decision by a preponderance of the evidence; and,
  • The sanction(s) imposed were not appropriate for the violation.

The appeals for conduct cases and decisions are heard by the Dean of Students or the Vice President for Student Affairs (or designee), depending on the origin of the case. The specific authorities are:

Dean of Students: The Dean hears all appeals for cases originating from:

  • Assistant Directors for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution
  • Graduate Assistants for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution
  • Housing & Residence Education Office of Conduct &
    Community Standards
  • Director for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution or Designee

Vice President for Student Affairs: The Vice President (or designee) hears all appeals for cases originating from:

  • College of Law Honor Committee
  • Health Science Center Student Conduct Committee
  • Student Conduct Committee
  • Greek Conduct Committee
