Seminars

Please read the following directions prior to registering for a seminar:

Only students who have been referred by Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution may register for these seminars. Please select a date that you are available to attend the educational seminar.

Sign up for only one seminar date and time. You are expected to attend that scheduled seminar. Do not miss academic courses in order to attend a seminar. Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution will not provide documentation to faculty for missing class. If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution at 352-392-1261.

Note: Seminars start on time, and late students will not be admitted. When you arrive, please sign in, so the facilitator can give you credit for attending. Once you have completed the seminar, Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution will record your participation and that sanction will be complete. If you have additional sanctions, please make sure those are also completed by the deadline.

Alcohol 101

This seminar is an introduction to alcohol, and discusses with participants the effects misuse of alcohol has on their body. During this session, participants will learn the basic physiological and biological effects of alcohol use, responsible drinking behaviors, how to spot and intervene when someone is experiencing alcohol poisoning, the red flag behaviors of an alcohol use disorder, and risk reduction strategies surrounding alcohol consumption. This seminar is one hour and is offered by a GatorWell Staff Member.

Life – and Death – Styles of the Rich and Famous

Alcohol and drug use is a prominent issue that impacts many celebrities. As young people, college students look up to celebrities and try and mirror their lifestyles without knowing and understanding the consequences of these choices. In this seminar, participants will learn about the health hazards associated with various drugs, examine the risk factors related to addiction, discuss how to help someone that is struggling with an addiction, and how drugs have impacted celebrities. Participants will also discuss and identify campus resources available to assist students struggling with addiction. This seminar is one hour and is offered by a GatorWell Staff Member.

Substance Use and Abuse

This 1 ½ hour seminar is designed to provide support for more adaptive decision making related to substance use, and to educate on services available to students if they continue to have substance related problems.  The Counseling and Wellness Center offers this program two to three times a semester to 12 students who have had conduct referrals due to alcohol/drug use. This group provides students a forum to describe the incident for which they were referred and to receive feedback from counselors and peers regarding their choices.

The What, Why, and How of Alcohol Poisoning

Alcohol poisoning is a dangerous and potentially deadly consequence of drinking too much alcohol. During this seminar, participants will learn how to better interpret intoxication and BAC levels, recognize the symptoms of alcohol poisoning, what to do as sober bystander, and how to prevent alcohol poisoning from occurring in the first place. This seminar is one hour and is offered by a GatorWell Staff Member.
